FRIENDS

Back in the day, we shared a brain
had our own language, and were bored
sometimes I didn't want to hang out with you
because we shared the same questions and answers
the last thing I wanted to do was hang out with myself
yet there you were different outside
but inside we were both reckless adolecents
we could speak silently in dives
and drink cheap wine
I didn't like the taste of beer
I look at old photographs
we were smiling then
while the pressure was on
I wasn't your copilot
and you weren't my second in command
but we marched to adulthood in one unit
rebelling against maturity and settling
we were preparing for war
I can say now since we are still standing
we've won
